If you're GPU limited, going from 1080p to 1440p will very approximately almost halve your framerate, since it's something like 80% more pixels. The more pixels, the higher the load on your GPU. To get a good approximation, multiply the resolution to get how many pixels there are. ![]() There are many benefits to a higher refresh rate regardless of resolution. If you'll never play anything other than Flight Simulator, I suppose you could get away with a 60Hz monitor, but I wouldn't buy one of those these days. So I think it's worth looking at some other games' benchmarks to get an idea of what it takes to match the monitor's resolution, refresh rate, and detail/quality setting - high, ultra, etc. That said, I know Flight Simulator framerates are pretty low and you're not going to be pushing 144 frames per second in this one game any time soon. 1440p is about 78% more pixels than 1080p - not insignificant. Make sure it can achieve the framerate of your monitor at its native resolution and detail/quality you want to play at or you will have wasted a lot of money. GSync and/or FreeSync are worth it IMO as well.Īnd seriously, your system is important here. If you can afford to get a good 27" 2560x1440 144Hz monitor and the system (video card, etc.) to drive it, I'd do that in a heartbeat. I have an 34" ultrawide now and it has its plusses and may not be worth the big bump in cost for you. I can't speak to the differences between 1080p and 1440p in Flight Simulator specifically, but I wouldn't go back to 1080p after playing everything at 1440p for a few years now - both 2560x14x1440 - even if I could net a higher framerate like 240Hz vs. Descending towards Salzsburg by /u/Santi871.IRC : freenode #reddit-flightsim #upvoteva Flight Sim Internet RadioĪVSIM Library (freeware - account required) ![]() More about our rules can be found here: /r/flightsim/about/rules. ![]() Let's have a chat about spam and self-promotionĪbsolutely no advertising or self-promotion outside of the weekly self-promotion thread. Please see this threads for more information: Self-promotion is limited to the weekly self-promotion thread onlyĪccounts younger than 12 hours are now permitted to post both comments and submissions
